The Foundation

Living in South Florida is a lot of fun. We have great weather, beautiful beaches and plenty of pools. Sadly, Florida ranks #1 in drowning rates, especially in children under the age of 6. That’s why I created this foundation in memory of my son Ozzie, who loved to teach children to swim.

Ozzie’s Angels Foundation helps families who financially can’t afford to pay for their child’s swimming lessons. We do this thanks to people like you who donate and help in our cause.

FACTS
Drowning is the #1 cause of death for children ages 1-4 in Florida
75% of victims are 12-25 months
65% drown in the family pool
33% drown in a neighbors’ or relatives’ pool
77% were missing less than 5 minutes
For every child that drowns, four are hospitalized for a near drowning

Ozzie’s Angels Foundation is a non-profit organization that was started by the Castellanos Family. This charitable organization was started in loving memory of my son Osmany “Ozzie” Castellanos. Ozzie was born on October 23rd, 1983, and at 23 he was involved in a tragic boating accident on July 8th, 2007 that took his life. Ozzie was a Lifeguard with Miami Dade County. He loved life, he enjoyed working with his Community, and during his off time he absolutely loved teaching children the importance of swimming. Our mission is to carry out his dream. Drowning is the leading cause of death in children under 6 years of age. That’s why we are working with different pool facilities in Miami-Dade county to provide children with swimming classes.

In addition to swimming, our foundation will also focused on bringing Boating Safety Awareness and Education to boaters in South Florida. Osmany, like so many others, lost his life in an accident that was preventable. If boaters would of followed boating safety rules, our son would be alive. Our family and friends will continue to be out at Marina’s giving out brochures in order to help educate boaters and save lives.
